Freezer Space:For a quarter (half of a half) of a cow: "you'll need at least 4.5 cubic feet of space in a chest freezer or 5.5 cubic feet of space in an upright freezer for 142 pounds of beef" - MN Extension Website.
(Double this for a half of beef: 9 cubic feet in chest freezer / 11 cubic feet in an upright freezer) (Quadruple this for a whole beef: 18 cubic feet in chest freezer / 22 cubic feet in an upright freezer) What is the COST $ (Beef)? Our prices are $2.85/lb. based on the hanging weight of the animal. Our goal is to have between 900 and 1000 pound hanging weight for the full animal. Hanging weight is taken prior to the start of the custom cutting, and includes the weight of the bones. A quarter of beef is considered a half of a half of cow, which provides cuts from both the front and hind quarters. Price range is around $900 - $975 depending on hanging weight. This total includes the price of processing. Your quarter has to match the other quarter on steak thickness and roast size. A typical quarter will include about 3 standard coolers or laundry baskets worth of hamburger, steaks, and roasts. "A typical quarter of beef from a cow with a live weight of 1300 pounds should provide you with about 142 pounds of meat." MN Extension website. A half of beef ranges from $1750 - $1825 and can be fully customizable. A whole animal runs in the ballpark of $3400 to $3600 and is also fully customizable. |
Trey 9 & Jack 6, Adam 3 years! We have years of experience raising Holstein steers, and have tailored our program to keep our steers happy and tasty! We are working hard to produce a product that is both delicious and sustainable. We do not use any steroids, injections, or implants in our steers. Our beef is raised on a diet of whole shell corn and alfalfa which is all grown on our farm, as well as some vitamins and minerals.
We take pride in raising a high quality beef. By buying your meat directly from the farmer, you get a great local product. You know where it comes from, how it was raised and are supporting local businesses. Our cattle have free range to as much hay, corn, vitamins, and minerals as they please. We grow the hay and corn that we feed here on our farm, so we know that their food is high quality.
